My first impressions is that it feels like the show assumes I already know the lore, such as the fact they didnt explain what a 'Rebound' was or why its so impressive not using a Transmutation Circle.... have they cut things from the manga? Would I have more understanding if I watched the canon parts of the OG adaptation?

Anyway, I heard this becomes an overarching story line past the episode 10 mark, and I am pretty excited.

Yeah they pretty much expected the viewer has already watched the first adaptation of FMA which was a lot more fleshed out and took its time, I never watched it but it never hindered my enjoyment at all or felt like things were missing

Have a good watch!! Congrats to you

Its not that confusing tho you wouldn’t feel lost or that something is missing in the story. Just start the show and enjoy it and you’ll see for yourself 🤜🏻

@imjayhime I feel lost when im watching this whenever the villains are speaking, i literally have no idea what they're talking about, i also am so confused on how this alchemy thing works, i get the whole equivalent exchange aspect but i feel like the show assumes im a life long fan and barely explains the details.

which is killing my enjoyment

Fma has just top notch quality writting that you rarely see nowadays. It’s sad really how most modern shows don’t care as much as how much fma obviously did.

It does assume that viewers watched the first anime and rushes through the stuff that was covered in it without a lot of explanation. But once it gets to the new material it's great.

Not to be that guy, but the best version of the story is the manga, though. It covers the whole story like Brotherhood does but doesn't rush through the beginning.

I wouldn't say that the original was more fleshed out. The only thing it had over brotherhood was a whole episode of their childhood, which just gave more screen time to their mother and let the viewer get more attached. The story starts more chronologically, with their childhood and them committing the taboo, but then it timeskips and jumps straight to action. There isn't much stuff missing or lore missing.

Hmm maybe read up on it then? The FMA Fandom wiki page has a section on alchemy, and it goes into detail. That could help you understand it better.

I just started re-reading it again because they are making a webtoon version atm and tbf, it's the same in the manga. Since nor the protagonists understand much yet of what they are seeking, nor is transmutation explained, we are discovering things as it goes. Each time more elements come that help us understand what lies behind everything. So keep on watching if it isn't too comfusing. It will get better I promise.
